Sunday Education
Sunday Morning Christian Education
At 9:00 AM, our Sunday School begins with our all-ages Gathering Time in the Parish Hall for 15 minutes of prayer, song, and announcements, with breakfast fare on hand. This year, our gathering time will be centered around the weekly collects (the short prayer for each Sunday of the Church Year near the beginning of the service). At 9:15–10:15 AM we go to our separate classes with adult classes meeting in the Parish Hall area and children/youth classes in the Undercroft. This spring, we will offer one class on Sunday mornings. The Women’s Bible Study and The Letter to the Hebrews classes will be in recess this spring and resume meeting in September.
Anglican Essentials: Covenant and Communion
Sunday mornings in the spring, 9:15–10:15 in the Parish Hall
See the Anglican Essentials page for class notes and lectures.
In the slow-moving train crash of international Anglicanism, a decision taken in California has finally brought a large coach off the rails altogether.
That is what N.T. Wright, the Bishop of Durham, England, wrote with regard to The Episcopal Church’s 75th General Convention this summer. Indeed, it seems the TEC coach is off the rails. But is there any hope for the whole Anglican train? Bishop Wright, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and our own Bishop Stanton have pointed to the proposed Communion Covenant as the way to stay on track, and the Diocese of Dallas’ recent convention was focused on the Covenant as the hope and future of our
diocese’s identity as a fellowship of Anglican Christians. But what does it really mean to be an Anglican? This is a question many have trouble answering. But this is the question at the heart of the proposed Covenant. So join Fr. Houk for this spring’s single Sunday morning adult class as he walks you through the text of the Covenant and the framework it provides for Anglican essentials, which the Covenant describes as Biblical faith, catholic tradition, accountability, discipline, and a common life with brothers and sisters around the world.
Children and Youth Sunday School
Children age three through third grade participate in Godly Play, which is an approach to Christian formation that enables children to experience the presence of a loving God and discover how to speak the language of their biblical faith. Classes begin on January 10th and will be held in the dedicated space in the undercroft (the basement of the church).
- Godly Play for 3, 4 and 5-year olds meets in the Blue Room.
- Godly Play for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades meets in the Purple Room.
- Faithweaver Bible Study for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades meets in the Green Room.
- Faithweaver Bible Study for Junior and Senior High meets in the Youth Room.
